The Director of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), Dr. Arcadi Navarro, has been awarded the Telecommunications and IT Night Honor Award, in a ceremony held at the Barcelona Auditorium. The distinction has been granted by a jury representing the Catalan Association of Telecommunications Engineering and Digital Technologies and the Official College of Computer Engineering of Catalonia. Dr. Navarro is professor of Genetics and ICREA research professor at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). His research activity has mainly focused on the field of population genetics research, molecular evolution, the relationships between genomes and phenomes and evolutionary medicine.
In addition, Dr. Navarro is co-director of the European Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA), in collaboration with the European Institute of Bioinformatics and the Center for Genomic Regulation (CGR). Currently, with highly relevant biomedical data stored in the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the EGA is the worldwide reference service for the management and secure distribution of Medical Genomics data. The Telecommunications Night Award of Honor distinguishes a public or private personality (institution or person) with a wide and distinguished professional career related to Electronics, Information and Communication Technologies or Audiovisual in the technical, academic, business or institutional field within the State.
