We investigate, we move forward: the 2024 Impact Report is now available

From the Foundation and the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), we publish the new 2024 Impact Report; a summary of the last year's activities that reflects the firm commitment to research to prevent Alzheimer's, support for families, and scientific and social outreach.

Under the slogan «We investigate, we move forward», we continue working toward a future without Alzheimer's and to ensure that addressing this disease is a scientific, political, and social priority. "2024 has been a hopeful year for Alzheimer's research, marked by the European Medicines Agency's recommendation to approve the first drug capable of halting its progression in Europe. This milestone drives a profound change in the way we understand and address the disease and motivates us to do more and better science," emphasizes the Foundation's director, Arcadi Navarro.

Strengthening Alzheimer's research and raising awareness

This 2024 has been characterized by important advances in scientific research. We have created brain organoids —minibrains developed from stem cells—that allow us to study the onset and progression of Alzheimer's, and we have managed to measure the decrease in blood flow in the brain during asymptomatic stages of the disease. Furthermore, we have validated a new metric for quantifying amyloid plaques in the brain, a key step toward more reliable and earlier diagnosis.

This year has also been marked by the constitution of the Alzheimer Hub Barcelona, a strategic alliance with the city's leading public hospitals that will accelerate research, attract investment, and improve the transfer of knowledge into clinical practice.

In the social and informative field, we have celebrated the seventh edition of the Brain Film Fest, we have organized more than 50 informative talks across the country, and we have strengthened our support programs for caregivers, both in person and online. In addition, we have presented the report “Proposals for a new prioritization of Alzheimer's in Spain” at the Ministry of Health, developed in conjunction with more than 30 organizations from the scientific, health, and social fields. Finally, we have launched the Ambassador Partner Program to further involve our social base in our daily lives.

All of this has been possible thanks to the efforts of more than 98,000 members, patrons, companies, and donors who support the mission of the Foundation and the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC).
